MY STORY

I started baking, like a lot of people, when I was young with my mum in the kitchen at home in England. It started out as making “sultana cakes” - a very basic vanilla cupcake that had a handful of sultanas (like raisins) thrown into the batter. No frosting, just the cakes! Although I haven’t made these in years, I still remember my mum teaching me how to make them. As I grew up, I started trying new recipes and found that I really loved to bake. As a teacher, I had quite a bit of stress in my life and so baking became my way to find peace. My teacher friends were only too happy to be my taste testers and it made me so happy to see people enjoying my baked goods.

Moving from England to USA was exciting but somewhat stressful! New job, new home, new people... Luckily, I found a home with a fellow teacher who was very welcoming. I was able to continue my baking and she even helped me expand my personal menu after asking me to make her favorite pie - Strawberry and Rhubarb! I would regularly take cupcakes and other recipes into school for people to try and I soon had people following me to my room when they realized I had brought cupcakes in! As a Grade Level Chairperson, I made sure that everyone on the grade level had their birthday celebrated. I would ask people to sign a card and then I would make them a dozen of their favorite cupcakes. I was soon being given suggestions of new recipes to try and we all loved it!

Many people had mentioned that I should start a bakery and start selling my cupcakes. I was reluctant at first but after being out of the middle school classroom for a few years now and trying to find what truly makes me happy, I decided to take the leap. I started playing around with even more new recipes, company names, logos, web sites and before I knew it, Dragonfly Delicacies was created.

While the cupcakes were successful for me, my decorated sugar cookies have become the item that has really launched my business. So many of you have asked me to make them for your celebrations or even “just because!” that they are all I do now, and I really love it. I get to create multiple designs in one set so that you can elevate your dessert table. They are cookie art that is ALMOST too pretty to eat! From woodland themed baby shower to dog themed birthday, from Candyland to sunflowers, from retirement to celebration of life cookies, I have loved every single cookie you have asked me to create!

Following other ‘cookiers’ on social media as well as taking classes to learn new techniques and improve on my current techniques means that I can bring you sugar cookies that are even more amazing than before!

I have loved dragonflies for as long as I can remember. There is just something so elegant and beautiful about them. I like to bring that elegance and beauty to my designs for every customer.   I’m so excited to be starting this new venture and I hope you will join me along the way.
